QuickFind: Update stage #1 complete

Posted on 19th Feb 2010 @ 2:21:25 AM

After a lot of work over the past few days I've finally been able to put the latest version of the QuickFind tool online as a Stage 1 rewrite

Most of the work is behind the scenes but the most prominent change is the inclusion of compatible ink information. For now, only ink sets are actually provided as product listings but I will be getting individual inks listed once I figure out how to manage stock changes.

Other changes include:

  • Additional KB/FAQ articles are now linked to different icons, so clicking them provides an explanation for specific icons/actions
  • New icons created for specific situations (eg: kit purchase required for reset access, etc...)
  • Results pages are now templated which will make it much easier to cope with future changes
  • Reduced information overload and simplified the options available to visitors (eg: 3rd party utility links not shown if a free reset is available and accessible)
  • Customers are now identified properly
  • Single use links are now working manually (automated delivery for customers is priority #1 in Stage 2)

Stage 2 Plans

I'm painfully aware that the reset utility side of things is less than ideal for customers seeking utilities so that is the top priority followed by:

  • Add Tooltip function/info for icons to make it easier to understand what each icon stands for.
  • Icons indicate which inks are actually sold on OctoInkjet
  • Addition of a "Remote Reset Service" icon as a 3rd party "cost" option**
  • Add all the missing printer images

** This new "remote reset service" is still in its infancy but given the limitations and recent changes that Epson have incorporated into their newest printer utilities it's becoming obvious that this sort of service is going to become more common.
