Checkout: County/State field only shows UK counties

This problem is described with the following symptoms.

  1. You attempt to register or use the checkout to add an address outside the UK
  2. The correct country is selected but the form continues to show UK only counties


Most Likely Cause:

In most cases the cause of this problem is the use of a utility like Norton 360 Auto-Fill which stores your address details and tries to be helpful by filling out the information for you automatically

Solution:

  1. Change the country field MANUALLY (ie: using the mouse, keyboard, etc..) to a different country
  2. Re-select your country MANUALLY again.
  3. The form should now update the county/state field with the correct information or a field for you to enter the information as text.


Why It Does This?

The reason for this “bug” is that the form relies on the user actually filling out the form using your mouse and keyboard to trigger certain events, like updating the County/State selection list with the correct information. Norton 360 doesn’t trigger the change properly so the list doesn’t know it needs to update.

By manually changing the country to something different and then back to your country you trigger the event properly and it all works.
