When you pay using a Credit or Debit Card you may be asked to complete an additional step called "Verified by Visa" (VbV) or "3DSecure".
These services are provided by Visa and MasterCard and are intended to provide an additional layer of security to stop your card details being used without your knowledge. Basically to stop fraud.
But I've Never Seen This Before
Unfortunately these services are something that aren't pre-arranged with you but instead your credit/debit card provider waits until you attempt to use an eCommerce store like OctoInkjet where this information is required and then spring it on you.
To get things setup you need to click on the "Forgot Password" or whatever is indicated when you don't know your VbV/3DSecure key and then fill out the details using your bank card and personal information.
You then get to fill out a password that you can use each time you see the VbV / 3DSecure system.
Security Concerns?
Obviously if you've never seen it before it can feel like you're in the middle of a phishing attack, aimed at getting your personal details.
If you have any concerns talk to your issuing bank before you continue but you can go ahead provided you are on the PayPoint.net website (the OctoInkjet payment processor) and have only been taken there by following the store checkout process.
Can I Ignore Verified By Visa / 3DSecure And Complete My Transaction?
Yes, provided your order is below £50 in value you can ignore the by clicking the "Cancel" link/button when you are presented with the VbV / 3D Secure screen. This will bypass the VbV / 3DSecure process and continue with processing the payment.
Please note, my payment provider does provide additional anti-fraud checking tools and information to help avoid issues with fraudulent orders so you may find your order is put on hold while checks are carried out.
