Security/Safety

The OctoInkjet CIS systems were born, and designed specifically for use, in Primary and Secondary school environments. To make them as safe as possible, we've ensured you have a number of options available to you in terms of securing the unit from curious individuals as well as some level of malicious intent. Whilst none of these are foolproof they do afford much better protection than other CIS kits.

• Security locking (optional extra)
  Through the simple use of Security head screws the reservoir containment can be secured against casual and opportunistic intrusion.

• Mounted containment
  Most CIS kits utilise reservoirs that simply sit next to the printer and have little if any means of being secured. As a result they can easily be caught and/or knocked over in any number of ways. Our system is directly mounted using existing features in the printer design that allow it to be clipped into place. If required, high strength velcro tape can be utilised to further secure the unit in place.

• General ink containment
  Because all the reservoirs are held in a container this can help reduce the likelihood of an ink spill in the event of a major impact detaching the unit.
  (in most cases such an impact would require significant force likely to damage the printer itself!)

Reservoir Capacity

The standard capacity of 250ml (per colour) can be expanded. However please note your "security" requirements can limit this.

In "high risk" environments where the system needs to remain closed (eg: around young children, pets, etc...) you can still expand up to two of your ink reservoirs to a limit of 500ml each using "buddy packs". Normally only the black ink would be expanded in this way.

In "low risk" environments, where you would feel comfortable leaving the container lid off, it is possible to expand the ink reservoirs to hold up to 1000ml (1 litre) of each ink colour although this does entail increased risk of spillage as the lid has to be modified to allow much larger reservoir bottles to poke through.

General Design Features

In addition to the security features and capacity options we have also included some small but significant design points that make your CIS easier to use and maintain.

• Refilling
  The bottles used in our design are a wide neck design which makes is relatively easy to refill or top them up as required. A small funnel can be provided to make this task even easier.
• Tubing
  We've done as much as possible to ensure that the tubing is kept as unobtrusive and out of the way as possible.
• Tube clips
  Small quick-release tube clamps have been installed on each ink tube to allow ink flow to be controlled easily. These are particularly useful for safe refilling, transportation or if there's a situation that requires the ink flow to be stopped in a hurry.
• Ink monitoring and safety features
  Hewlett Packard built an important safety feature into this printer (as well as other Officejet printers) that detects air in the cartridge and halts the printer. Our kit retains this feature and thus avoids air surges that would otherwise result in costly printhead failure. Almost all other CIS kits use a design that fools the printer into thinking it always has ink even if the cartridge is completely empty!
• Automatic Reset Chips
  HP printers are designed to recognise when a cartridge "should" be empty (ie: has used it's normal capacity). As a result it's necessary to provide auto-reset chips (ARC's) as part of the kit. Our chips allow you to reset the perceived ink levels using a quick and simple procedure. Our chips are tested thoroughly for compatability with the printers they are intended for.

Running Costs

Our standard kit comprises a full litre of ink (250ml of each colour) along with all the standard features and based on HP RRP* prices the kit will usually pay it's way once you have used approximately one third of the ink in your first kit. After that replacement ink is usually around a sixth of a kit cost and comes down in price the more you buy.

Recycling and Bottle Credits

To encourage recycling, reduce costs and reduce the environmental impact of our products as much as possible, we offer a "Bottle credit" for the storage and return of empty bottles. This credit is applied on future orders.

Our kits are not mass produced in a factory and as a result we can provide you with a system that custom fits your requirements. Aside from the standard kit we can also offer increased capacity systems. For example:
