Epson R290

Waste ink modification instructions for the Epson R290, R280, R285

This printer has the usual trap door arrangement in the rear left quadrant of the case.

Unlike previous models (eg: the R220) you don't need to hunt around looking for the waste tube either as it's right there waiting for you behind the flap.

The tube has two ends... The end you see (as above) is connected to the waste ink tank (which still contains the "nappy" pads to soak up the ink). The connection point is on the right side & inside of the trap door. The other end is connected to the pump which draws ink through the head but you can't see this.

It is absolutely 110% vital that you do not pull the tube off the pump end so you need to be careful as you disconnect the tube carefully from the tank. Some folks get a bit carried away and pull too hard and get the wrong end and if you do that.. You are fubar!

So, carefully disconnect the tube that you see from the nipple on the right inside of the trap door.

Once you've done that you then extend the tubing using your kit as normal.

Update: A more comprehensive guide has been put together for the R280 - R290 models and includes many more pictures and more detailed information, including how to reset this printer. The new guide is hosted on our sister site wasteink.co.uk
