Pro-9500 / PGI-9 ink review/replacement

Posted on 30th Apr 2016 @ 10:50:22 PM

As with the Canon Pro-10, we've conducted a major review of the ink set sold for the Pro-9500.

Probably the first thing to note is that we were pretty horrified to discover the Photo Black (PGI-9BK) and Grey (PGI-9GY) simply weren't suitable for Gloss media.

Naturally our priority has since been to resolve the issues by identifying an improved ink solution and we have now completed that process.

  • The PGI-9GY (Grey/Gray) will be replaced with a new ink as a straight swap
  • The PGI-9BK (Photo Black) will have two options, as per the Pro-10 with the standard option providing good adhesion for most Gloss papers, and a Gloss Enhanced alternative that works with ALL known media, particularly with Canon Pro Platinum and similar.

Further research is pending with a view to replacing the existing ink set, as the original ink set is unlikely to be available from the manufacturers long term and a refresh has been long overdue anyway. We expect this process to take a few more days with longer term testing to confirm.

Unlike the Pro-10, existing customers will not need to replace the bulk of their inkset and we will be contacting them regarding the Grey and Photo Black options with discounted upgrade options to resolve outstanding issues.
